Synplicity ASIC Synthesis Product Offers Support for Leading ASIC Design Tools and IP Libraries
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 2001--Further
detailing its strategy to deliver a high-productivity synthesis
solution for ASIC designers, Synplicity Inc. (Nasdaq: SYNP), a leading
supplier of software for the design and verification of
semiconductors, today announced that its new Synplify ASIC(TM)
software has been flow-tested with leading test and physical design
tools, and is supported by leading library vendors. With this
compatibility, Synplicity® has made it easier for designers to
integrate the Synplify ASIC synthesis product into existing design
flows. To date, the Synplify ASIC product has been flow tested with
physical design and test products from Avant!, Cadence, Monterey
Design Systems, Synopsys and SynTest Technologies, either directly by
Synplicity or by customers using the Synplify ASIC software. Library
partners supporting the Synplify ASIC product include Artisan
Components, Inc. and Virtual Silicon.
``We developed the Synplify ASIC product -- with runtimes up to 15
times faster than traditional synthesis products -- to deliver an
order of magnitude productivity improvement to our customers,'' said
Andy Haines, vice president of marketing at Synplicity. ``Compatibility
between design tools is as important to designer productivity as a
fast and easy to use synthesis product. As part of our commitment to
improve designer productivity, we will continue to improve the
interoperability between our products and others in the design flow.''
Test Tool Compatibility
Testing design functionality and performance is a critical
component of ASIC design. To enable successful handoff between leading
test tools and the Synplify ASIC product, Synplicity tested flows with
Synopsys' Test Compiler and TetraMax products; SynTest's TurboScan,
TurboBSD and TurboFault products; and is working to test flows with
LogicVision's embedded test products.
``SynTest and Synplicity have been working together for several
months to provide a complete solution for our customers,'' said L.T.
Wang, president and CEO, SynTest. ``We are pleased that our customers
now have a productivity-focused synthesis solution with proven scan
and Logic BIST insertion capability.''
Synplicity also is working closely with LogicVision to establish a
compatible flow between the companies' products. LogicVision's
director of business development, Steve Baird, said, ``LogicVision and
Synplicity both share the same goal, to provide our customers with a
high-productivity solution to their design needs. We are currently
investigating flow interoperability to ensure our shared customer's
embedded test needs are supported.''
Physical Design Tool Support
Synplicity and Monterey Design Systems developed a
high-productivity design flow which combines Synplicity's Synplify
ASIC synthesis software with Monterey's Sonar and Dolphin physical
design software, enabling ASIC designers to shave months off of design
time and determine timing closure early in the design process. The
register transfer level code to a final GDSII output for
manufacturing design flow is detailed in a separate announcement also
made today.
Additionally, Synplicity has worked with ASIC design customers to
confirm interoperability between the Synplify ASIC product and
Cadence's Silicon Ensemble and Avant!'s Apollo products.
Library Partners
In addition to confirming design flows with leading tool vendors,
Synplicity has also established support from the two leading library
vendors, Virtual Silicon and Artisan Components.
Ken Brock, director of marketing, Virtual Silicon, stated, ``With
Synplicity as part of our EDA Ambassador program, Synplify ASIC
customers have the full support of Virtual Silicon in realizing the
tremendous design productivity advantages of the Synplify ASIC
product.''
Michael Ma, senior director of end-user program at Artisan
Components, added, ``Synplicity has been a member of our EDANet program
for several months, and during that time we have been pleased to see
Synplicity's successful beta testing and early customer acceptance
with the Synplify ASIC product. We plan to continue our efforts
together to support our mutual customers.''
About Synplicity's Synplify ASIC Product
Synplify ASIC is the industry's first timing-driven ASIC synthesis
product optimized to improve productivity for the majority of ASIC
designers. Leveraging Synplicity's proprietary synthesis algorithms
that have made Synplicity's FPGA synthesis and ASIC verification
products successful, the Synplify ASIC software provides an extremely
fast, easy-to-use and powerful ASIC synthesis solution -- with
runtimes up to 15 times faster than traditional synthesis products.
The Synplify ASIC software also offers a unique ``top-down'' design
methodology that enables designers to perform timing-driven synthesis
on up to two-million-gate designs in a single operation, supporting
matching hierarchy and constraints in synthesis and place and route
steps.
About Synplicity
Synplicity, Inc. (Nasdaq: SYNP) is a leading provider of software
products that enable the rapid and effective design and verification
of semiconductors used in next-generation networking and
communications hardware and other electronic devices. The company
leverages its innovative logic synthesis, physical synthesis and
verification software solutions to improve performance and shorten
development time for complex programmable logic devices, application
specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and system-on-chip (SoC)
integrated circuits. Synplicity's fast, easy-to-use products offer
extremely high quality of results, support industry-standard design
languages (VHDL and Verilog) and run on popular platforms. As of the
end of March 2001, Synplicity employed over 230 people in its 16
facilities worldwide. Synplicity is headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif.
